After billionaire SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, announced his plan to buy 100% of Twitter, transform it into a private corporation, and restore free expression on the network, liberals, progressives, and establishment pundits went into meltdown mode this morning.
While it’s uncertain whether Musk’s proposed purchase of Twitter at 18% above yesterday’s closing share price will go through, it didn’t stop the blue checkmark brigade from exploding in digital wrath throughout the network.
Max Boot, a notorious neoconservative warmonger, and ardent NeverTrump supporter reiterated what is sure to be a repeating argument from establishment mouthpieces: that free expression is hazardous to democracy, and that content moderation (censorship) is actually real freedom.
I am frightened by the impact on society and politics if Elon Musk acquires Twitter. He seems to believe that on social media anything goes. For democracy to survive, we need more content moderation, not less.

If Elon Musk takes over, progressive author and Daily Beast columnist David Rothkopf has threatened to leave the platform. The person behind the 260,000-follower account said, “We are the assets of Twitter.”
We are the assets of @Twitter. If we walk out the door the moment @ElonMusk takes it over, it is nothing. And, I can tell you, I for one, have no desire to participate in the social engineering experiment of that particular out-of-control megalomaniac.

Because of the CEO’s pro-free speech stance, gun control advocate Fred Guttenberg declared he wouldn’t buy any Tesla cars. “People who buy his cars aren’t likely Trump voters,” Guttenberg remarked.
So looks like @elonmusk wants to do for Trump what Truth Social couldn’t. The thing is, the people buying his cars are not your likely Trump voters. The possibility of a Tesla as a future purchase for me is gone. Many other great electric automotive options available.

Scott Galloway, a professor at NYU Stern and a podcaster on CNN’s failing online streaming program, CNN+, stated, “You’re full of s***.”
Market open to @elonmusk:
You’re full of shit.

Several left-wing users tweeted something along the lines of “tax the affluent” or “abolish billionaires.”
