Report: Facebook hit with 8 lawsuits for ‘exploiting young people for profit’

According to Mashable, the law firm Beasley Allen has filed eight cases against Facebook (now known as Meta), alleging that the company’s platforms Facebook and Instagram have harmed young people’s mental health.

Eight lawsuits have been filed around the country arguing that Facebook’s platforms are detrimental to the health of young people.

Meta not only “exploits young people for profit,” per the legal firm, but also purposefully attempted to make its platforms as psychologically addicting as possible and failed to protect its users.

One attorney says, “The defendants knew that their products and related services were dangerous to young and impressionable children and teens, yet they completely disregarded their own information. They implemented sophisticated algorithms designed to encourage frequent access to the platforms and prolonged exposure to harmful content.”

The corporation referenced far-left “whistleblower” Frances Haugen’s testimony in October 2021, in which she detailed the platform’s influence on adolescent users, as well as leaked papers claiming that the company was aware that it was “toxic” to teenage girls.

Beasley Allen attorney Andy Birchfield said in a statement:

“The defendants knew that their products and related services were dangerous to young and impressionable children and teens, yet they completely disregarded their own information. They implemented sophisticated algorithms designed to encourage frequent access to the platforms and prolonged exposure to harmful content.”

Instead of seeking to limit the harm caused by the platforms, Facebook executives made an active decision to “aggressively addict adolescents in the name of corporate profits,” according to Birchfield. Anxiety, despair, eating disorders, self-harm, and even attempted suicide are among the mental health conditions mentioned in the case.

A complaint was recently filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California by a family blaming Facebook and its Instagram platform for their daughter’s eating disorder, self-harm, and suicide thoughts, according to Breitbart News.

  1. Agree! Suckerberg’s buying off the election is one reason to shut it down, plus censoring anything against the left is another. He is making big bucks by not allowing the truth to be spoken . No one person should have that power!

  2. Shut down Facebook and his 2000 Mules1 If he did 2000 the first time and got away with it, he will do 10,000 or more this next time! He should be in jail with the rest of the Nazi buddies of his! And, parents you wonder what has happen to your children – Social Media! And you are the parent and you should stop it! YOU!
