During his recent trip to Asia, President Joe Biden made a startling shift in messaging when it comes to the current state of the economy, specifically linking record-high gas prices to what he called “an incredible transition,” and according to Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), those comments were the commander in chief’s way of admitting that the pain Americans are feeling at the pump is part of a deliberate White House plan, as Breitbart reports.
Graham’s assessment of Biden’s remarks, made last week in Tokyo, was delivered during a Friday appearance on Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street on Fox Business, and it was clear that the senator was not impressed with the truth he believes the president revealed.
The lawmaker from South Carolina responded directly to Biden’s statement that “When it comes to the gas prices, we’re going through an incredible transition that is taking place that, God willing, when it’s over, we’ll be stronger and the world will be stronger and less reliant on fossil fuels.”
In Graham’s estimation, those words were tantamount to an outright acknowledgment that “they’re doing this to you on purpose, that the transition period is being imposed by policies coming from the Biden administration.”
Graham also poured cold water on previous assertions from former White House press secretary Jen Psaki and Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm that skyrocketing fuel costs were best described as the “Putin Price Hike” resulting from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“It’s not Putin’s fault,” Graham declared, “that this is a conscious effort by the Biden administration to destroy fossil fuel production in the United States, to get away from fossil fuels, and you’re living this experience.”
“This is an irresponsible shutting down of oil and gas production in America, making us more dependent on oil and gas from bad actors, and it’s destroying the American economy,” Graham fumed, adding, “[b]ut the takeaway is what you said, this is being done on purpose.”
Graham was not the only member of the upper chamber upset by Biden’s “transition” talk, with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) saying, “He’s in Tokyo celebrating, saying, ‘it’s an incredible transition.’ Incredible for you! You fly a damn 747 where the taxpayers pay for your jet fuel. What Joe Biden is saying is, if you at home, if you drive a pick up truck, ‘to hell with you; you can’t drive your pickup truck. If you have a Suburban, you’ve got to get rid of that. We’re all getting Toyota Priuses.’”
As the Wall Street Journal’s Daniel Henninger recently noted, Biden’s plummeting approval and Americans’ deepening economic woes – driven in no small part by fuel prices – are evidence that [t]he political gods, in their unfathomable wisdom, have handed Republicans a once-in-a-generation chance to help voters understand how to build a future from this ruin” the administration seems determined to cause, but whether the GOP can effectively seize that opportunity come November, only time will tell.
